People in the Mbé area saw their lives changed when a rural electrification project covering 7.96 kilometres lit up their communities. Thanks to Highly Indebted Poor Countries Initiative (HIPC) funding worth 100,856,549 FCFA provided via PNDP, a high-powered generator was acquired and installed lighting up 1,500 homes and four additional neighbourhoods by September 2008.

Public service delivery in facilities like schools, hospitals and health centres where activities had hitherto been hampered by lack of electricity were also revived. Economic activity flourished in the municipality and the Council witnessed a corresponding increase of its revenue.
